Joann Patricia Ruth Marksberry (nee Bufe, prev. Unger) fell asleep in Jesus Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Joann was born in St. Louis, MO on December 12, 1934 to Otto E. and Rena M. Bufe (nee Iezzi). Joann grew up in Cincinnati, OH, attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School and Walnut Hills High School, and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business from the University of Cincinnati. Joann was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Silverton, OH, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Madisonville, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Milford, OH. Throughout her life, in addition to raising two sons, Joann worked as a secretary, fundraiser, and development director. Joann loved the Lord Jesus Christ and His people, and was active in her churches, serving in the women’s guild, singing in choirs, and participating in mission endeavors as well as women’s events throughout the years. Joann served two stints as President of the Greater Cincinnati Business and Professional Women organization from 1980-1981 and 1998-2000; she was also active in the National Society of Fundraising Executives, the Rosie Reds, and the Cincinnati Horticultural Society. In her later years, Joann moved to the greater Portland, OR area to be closer to her two sons. Joann is preceded in death by her husband James Marksberry, her mother and father, and her brother Otto E. Bufe; she is succeeded by sons James and John Unger (wife Teresa), five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and her sister Rena Haines, along with several nephews and nieces. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 2:00PM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 13401 SW Benish St., Tigard, OR 97223. Burial service will take place on Friday, January 10 at 2:30PM at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45231.
