John Meyer Schilling

November 4, 1932 – September 4, 2025

John Meyer Schilling

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Meyer Schilling, a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 4, 1932, John lived a life filled with laughter and kindness.

John met his best friend Norb’s sister Edelgard as a child, and also became life-long friends with the rest of the family, Fritz, Ida, Lilly, Wernie, Ervin, Herb, and Freddie. He enjoyed playing baseball with his friends in Price hill, and Edelgard never missed a game. John, a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, served his country with honor traveling around the world. He retired from his long-time career as an accountant at Kroger. A member of Christ Lutheran Church, he carried a deep faith in his heart throughout his life.

John found happiness in the simple pleasures of watching sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and Wordscapes and feeding the squirrels in his backyard. He was a devoted husband to Edelgard, his beloved “Sweet Pea” as they shared a life of love and laughter for 63 years. His family will fondly remember him for his caring nature, his dry sense of humor, and the joy he brought into every room.

John is survived by his loving wife Edelgard, daughters Lisa (Jeff) Kopp and Ellen Mahoney, and grandchildren Michael Kopp and Courtney Mahoney, half-brother Bobby (Kay) Schilling and half-sister Joyce (Dave) Middendorf, and many other family members, whom he held dear.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Clarence Schilling and Beulah Bunte, his great aunt Nellie Schilling and his great uncle Dr. Lawrence Schilling.

Join us in celebrating John’s wonderful life. The services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 3301 Compton Road, 45251 on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral at 11:00 AM. A procession will begin at 12:00 PM, leading to Arlington Memorial Gardens for a graveside service at 12:15 PM in the Garden of Everlasting Life.

John certainly lived a life full of purpose. Let us honor him with laughter, compassion, and a spirit of togetherness as we gather to share our memories and celebrate the joy he brought to our lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of John’s life to American Heart Association https://www.heart.org/ or American Lung Association https://action.lung.org/.

“Aunt Edelgard, Lisa and Ellen.. I’ve been praying for strength and comfort for you. Uncle John will be dearly missed. I find strength in Psalm 23. Read it loud and often, will surely calm you. My love to your family.”
