John S. Lewis, 74, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on February 17, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late James Howard Lewis and Alice (Denver) Lewis.

John was the beloved husband of Patti (Singer) Lewis for 53 years; loving father of Michael J.  (Jamie) Lewis, Lisa T. (Jeff) Abbott and Jon M. (Melinda) Lewis.; cherished brother of James (Diane), Denver (Tomako), Larry (Brenda), Mark (Kathy), Mary (Howard) Dettmer, Steven and Thomas Lewis; devoted Grandfather of Lydia, Lucas, Emmaline, Beckham, Oliver, Adalyn and Jayce; fond brother-in-law of Michael and (late) James Singer; and dear uncle to numerous loving nephews and nieces. 

John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1972-1981, achieving multiple ranks and recognitions while serving. His service took him to South Carolina, Spain, Germany, and Texas, and he carried the values of duty, integrity, and service throughout his life. 

After his military career, John worked for many years as a Project Manager at General Electric and later at Motorola. John was inspired to earn a Surgical Technician Degree after having open heart surgery in 2005.  Perhaps the greatest joy of his retirement was serving as a school bus driver for Sycamore Community Schools, where he found not just a job, but a second family among his coworkers, the students, and their families. The friendships he formed there brought him immense happiness and meant the world to him.   

John was a true jack-of-all-trades and could do and fix anything… He took great pride in keeping one of the best-kept yards in the neighborhood. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, his love of racing began long before he was a fan, as he and his brothers competed together as the Lewis Brothers at Tri-County Speedway. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished every opportunity to teach his grandchildren practical life skills, cheer them on from the stands at their sporting events, and create lasting memories through the time they spent together.

John will be remembered fondly and missed tremendously by all who were fortunate enough to know him. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 5527 Cheviot Rd. (45247). 
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 5222 North Bend Road (45247).
