Obituary for Katherine Lillian Gutenson
August 24, 1935 – May 24, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Lillian Gutenson, a beloved member of the Cincinnati community, who departed this life on May 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Katherine was born on August 24, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later lived in Indianapolis, Indiana before moving back home to Cincinnati. She created a home filled with warmth, love, and cherished memories.
Katherine worked as a Clerical Worker in a variety of industries. Her commitment to her work was evident, and she touched the lives of many with her kindness and attention to detail.
At home, Katherine found joy in simple pleasures: she was an avid fan of Western movies and loved the anticipation of watching The Price is Right. She was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the University of Kentucky Basketball teams. More than anything, she treasured the moments spent with her family. Visits from her dear niece, Kathleen (Bruce) Steinhard, and nephews, Robert “Bob” (Elaine) Schumacher and David (Carol) Schumacher, as well as her great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews who brought her immense happiness especially in her final days. Katherine held a special fondness for Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuits, which were a staple of her family gatherings and a symbol of her love for sharing food and laughter with those she cared for.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Gutenson, parents Carl and Marie Schumacher, and brother, Henry Schumacher.
As we remember Katherine, we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with devotion to her family and a genuine interest in the world around her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the memories they will carry forward.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th, 2025 from 5:00-6:30pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the BLUE Line). A funeral service will follow at 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at https://www.komen.org.
