It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret S. O’Connor, of Cincinnati, Ohio, who departed this life peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on January 15, 1934, in Galloway, West Virginia, Margaret touched the lives of countless individuals through her warmth, kindness, and unwavering optimism.
Margaret, affectionately known to her loved ones as Mardie, was a nurturing and optimistic soul whose passion for music and teaching left an indelible mark on the hearts of her students. With a master’s degree and an inspiring career as a teacher in Greenhills, Forest Park, and Winton Woods schools, she had a remarkable ability to inspire a love for music through melodies and encouragement which resonated deeply with her pupils. When Mardie wasn’t in the classroom, she found joy in her many hobbies, including reading, gardening, and birdwatching-activities that resonated with her love for nature. A longtime member of the Forest Chapel United Methodist Church in Forest Park, Mardie was actively involved in numerous church activities and initiatives. Her commitment to her faith fostered a strong sense of community, and through her tireless involvement, she forged many lifelong friendships. Her kindness and compassion were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mardie was not only an exceptional teacher but also a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose family was her greatest joy. Mardie was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Robert Cole and David O’Connor. She is survived by her devoted children, Gregory (Jennifer) Cole, Jennifer Sloneker, Jon (Rhonda) Cole, Christopher (Kelly) Cole, Michael (Ava) O’Connor, and Erin Dawson, along with her cherished 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Patricia Hinkle, late Russell Shaw and late Virginia Lee Sinclair. Her family was a constant source of joy and pride, and they hold precious memories of her compassionate spirit and loving embrace.
To celebrate Mardie’s life and legacy, a Celebration of Life will be held at Twin Towers Chapel, 5343 Hamilton Ave., on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM- 3:00 PM.
