Marvel Loucille Ferguson (nee Rich), age 106, of Hamilton Township. Wife of 60 years to the late Lonnie Ferguson. Daughter of the late Edgar and Minnie (Switzer) Rich. Dear sister of the late Harriet Swigert (nee Rich) and the late J. Willard and Virgil Rich.
Marvel’s roots grew deep in the area she called home her entire life. The Rich family is recognized as a First Family of Hamilton County, having settled in Loveland in 1795. She is the first LIVING member of the Century Families, honoring those who lived in the county for 100 years since 1861. She often spoke of her past, telling stories about riding the first motorized school bus, her grandfather’s butcher shop in Loveland, and her father’s volunteer fire service in Loveland with a horse drawn pumper engine. The Loveland Fire Department still stands on property donated by the Rich family. She co-authored with her grandniece an historical fiction novel, Hunting Wildflowers, in 2022, describing daily life in the area during the Great Depression. Her hobbies included archery and animal husbandry.
Marvel was a devout Christian who charmed us with her delightful quips and infectious laughter. We were blessed to be a part of her history. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 1 from 6-8 PM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 10 AM. Interment Arlington Memorial Gardens, Mt. Healthy.
