A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Mike Heizman passed away peacefully in his sleep after a few days in hospice, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mike cherished family. He was honored to be a Heizman and understood that a close, loving family like the Heizman’s is rare. He valued it deeply and was grateful for it, and he honored that gift by showing up, again and again, for the people he loved. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, he understood that time with the people you love is precious—and he didn’t waste a second of it. He never missed a performance, a sporting event, or an important moment for his children or grandchildren. He showed up, every time.
Mike taught and coached for many years at many schools, and he touched countless lives through the classroom and the teams he led. He was most proud of his two state championship wins in 2005 and 2007, while coaching at Saint Xavier. He was sometimes known as a tough coach, but athletes respected him because they knew he was fair, he was committed, and he was pushing them to give their best. He didn’t limit his teaching and coaching to his professional life—he continued to coach his children and grandchildren in character, effort, and what it means to be a good human being.
Mike was selfless and steady, and he was a hero to all of his children. He took special care of his daughter Cara, making sure she always knew she was accepted, loved, and protected. Many students and coworkers didn’t get to see the loving and goofy side of Mike—the side his family knew well and will miss forever.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Lester Heizman and Dolores Heizman.
Mike is survived by his wife, Cathy Heizman; his children, Cara Heizman, Brad Heizman, and Brian Heizman; his grandchildren Averie Heizman, Bailey Heizman, Tyler Heizman, and Hannah Heizman, his siblings, Barb Logan, Chris Heizman, Scott Heizman, and many extended family members, friends, former students, and athletes who will carry his influence forward.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20th, 2026 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the BLUE line).

Rest in peace, “Foghorn.” You’ll be deeply missed.”

“Brad and siblings…, we are so sorry to hear of your dads passing. Although I had only met him once I can see that as a fellow educator he and I would’ve hit it off from the beginning.. I’m sure as a teacher he touched and influenced many students and athletes So sorry for your loss and condolences to all your family”
