Richard Carl “Dick” Bernecker, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. A resident of Colerain Township, Richard was born on March 21, 1933, to the late Carl and Eleanor (née Graf) Bernecker. He was the beloved husband of the late Marian (née Stoll) Bernecker for 64 years.
Richard was a devoted father to Richard (Lisa) Bernecker Jr., Diane Bernecker-Baer, Mike (Traci) Bernecker, Steve (Betsy) Bernecker, and Denise (Bill) Zumvorde. He was a proud grandfather of Ricky, Amy, Ben, Bobby, Tommy, Joey, Christa, Coray, Michael, Billy, Jake, John, David, Zack, Anna Jackie, Katlyn, Natasha, and a loving great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Nate Bernecker, and step-great-grandchild, Kadyn.
Richard was the dear brother of William (Marsha) Bernecker the late Robert (Joyce) Bernecker and the late Carol (Donald) Rutz.
He leaves a lasting legacy of love, faith and devotion to family. His warm smile, charismatic personality and sense of humor will not be forgotten. Richard genuinely loved people and found happiness in helping others.
After the loss of his father at the age of 14, he stepped into the role of helping to provide for his family with remarkable strength and determination beyond his years. Richard started his own roofing company at the age of 16 and built it into a very successful business shared by his son Steve and his grandson, John.
He enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling the world with Marian, fishing, playing cards, horseback riding, boating and showcasing his classic cars. He also enjoyed going to the casino.
Richard lived a life full of community involvement, friendship, and passions that brought people together. He was a member of the North College Hill Historical Society, Hilltoppers Car Club, Gymkhana Horse Club, North College Hill Sportsman Club, and the Northside Knights of Columbus, where he held the distinction of being their oldest living member. Through these organizations, Richard built lasting friendships.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. John the Baptist Church, 5361 Dry Ridge Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45252, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the EB Hope Foundation in remembrance of Nate Bernecker or to the St. John the Baptist of Dry Ridge Foundation.
