A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Leroy Packer, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who left us on January 10, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on February 1, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Army and dedicated his professional life to the industrial painting industry, where he was known for his craftsmanship while employed at Xtech. After his retirement, Richard cherished spending quality time with his loving wife, Joyce, to whom he was married for 64 wonderful years. Richard and Joyce created a home filled with joy, from working in the yard together and spending quality time with family.
He held dear the simple pleasures in life, enjoying delicious meatloaf and indulging in strawberry milkshakes in his later years. Richard had a fondness for westerns, especially his favorite, Daniel Boone, which brought him great enjoyment. He was a doting grandfather, frequently delighting in outings with his granddaughters, Ashley and Kaitlyn, whether it was taking them to McDonald’s or attending their school events and soccer games. He shared a particularly special bond with his daughter, Lorie, who lovingly regarded herself as “daddy’s girl.”
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Packer; his grandchildren, Ashley Dawson and Kaitlyn Dawson; his great-grandchildren, Jonah Ruth and Dawson Stiens. His legacy of love and devotion will continue to be cherished by all who knew him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Ida Packer (nee Blum), his daughter Lorie Moore, his siblings Matilda Packer Salzman, Dorthy Packer Newman, Betty Packer, Allen Packer, Raymond Packer, Buddy Packer, and Andrew Packer.
In celebration of Richard’s remarkable life, a funeral service will be held at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 1:30 PM. Prior to the service, a visitation service will take place at 12:30 PM. A burial will take place immediately following the funeral service in the Garden of Everlasting Life.
Richard Leroy Packer will be laid to rest in a place he loved, surrounded by those who held a special place in his heart. We invite family and friends to join us in honoring his life and legacy as we say our final goodbyes.

“Dick was one of the best neighbors you could ever have. He was always doing special things for us from watering our plants while we were out of town to taking care of packages delivered. We shared the love of dogs, Ginger and Charlie loved him very much too. We will miss him very much, Love from Jennifer & Mark Burgess”
