Obituary via Dalbert Woodruff & Isenogle
Today, we lay to rest the gentle soul of Scott D. Momberg, eldest son preceded in death by his loving parents Howard E. and Lois R. Momberg Jr. and favorite brother to Keith. He leaves behind co-workers and numerous cousins. His passing on May 29th, 2025 at age 65 was expected after his gradual decline in the ICU for twenty-three (23) days with a bloodstream infection. Even with ten (10) hospital specialists working on his treatment, he did not regain consciousness or the ability to speak.
He is not a CEO, a business owner, or even a leader in the community. He is a typical guy who worked a lifetime waiting for the day he could retire. He is a West-sider who graduated from the Oak Hills Local School District before receiving a Bachelors degree in electronics from the Ohio College of Applied Science (OCAS) in downtown Cincinnati. He entered the work force doing board level repair in the 80’s for Random Electronics who specialized in the sale of medical devices. When the company reduced its work force, he later found employment as a network administrator at the Hamilton County Job and Family Services where he remained for the next 30+ years. He is not one to follow the ‘paper chase’ in his field of study by passing certification exams as many did at the time. He did not need a piece of paper to demonstrate his knowledge in a variety of technical subjects. He is well liked and respected by his peers without a cross word to say about anyone.
In his early years, he, along with his father and brother attended weekly classes at Scarlet Oaks in the pursuit of Amateur “Ham” Radio where they each passed a written theory exam and demonstrated morse code proficiency to ultimately attain a General class license. They looked forward to attending the next annual Hamvention as a family at Dayton Hara Arena, the flea markets, and vendor exhibits showcasing the latest in radio and antenna offerings.
He has a passion for electronics which always seemed to come easily for him. This made the transition to computers a natural progression allowing enjoyment as a hobby for many years. He enjoys everything electronics and gadgets including customizing his next computer, storage technologies, WiFi, wireless cameras, configuring home routers, cell phone, photography and the list goes on. He enjoys playing video games for hours on end sometimes staying up late at night just to get to the next level.
He may be considered fortunate when he contracted COVID as he only experienced the loss of taste and smell along with an overall weakness. Given his size and age, there was certainly a concern for respiratory distress like so many others. The symptoms did little in the way of improvement in the following years. His mobility was affected so severely, he made regular use of the telework option never to return to work in person.
Growing up, he was clearly identified as a cat person. He had to have a cat in the house, sometimes two at the same time. It was evident how heartbroken he was whenever one of his cats passed away. These were the few times he actually showed a tear.
He is always giving of his time and knowledge to others with an exemplary work ethic reporting to work on time, taking very few sick days, and staying late hours to see the job through.
He and his little brother lived together with their loving parents from childhood into their teens and throughout adulthood. They were inseparable making his loss that much more difficult. He is missed most of all by his younger brother who cannot possibly prepare himself for the difficult adjustments he will need to make going forward without him.
