Obituary for Stephen Patrick Cordes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Patrick Cordes, who left us on March 4, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on December 20, 1949, in Cincinnati, Stephen’s journey through life was marked by a steadfast dedication to service, both in his professional and personal life.

Stephen served honorably in the United States Army, a commitment that laid the foundation for his distinguished career in law enforcement. For over 41 years, he proudly served as a police officer with the Wyoming and Glendale Police Departments, embodying the values of integrity, bravery, and compassion. Stephen was also a volunteer with the West Chester Fire Department. He was a steadfast protector of his community and a role model to many.

Beyond his profession, Stephen was a passionate history enthusiast, with a particular fondness for studying the Civil War. His curiosity and knowledge in this area often inspired deep conversations with friends and family. An avid collector, he found joy in constructing intricate Lego sets, a hobby that showcased his creativity and boundless spirit.

Stephen’s love for life extended deeply into his personal relationships. He cherished his family and was a constant support for his nieces, nephews, and their children, always ready with a listening ear or a helping hand. His affection for children was evident in the way he engaged with them, making him a beloved figure in their lives. Stephen was also a lover of dogs.

He is survived by his loving brother Tim (Connie) Cordes, sister Mary Rynn (Bob) Malarkey, brother Paul (Lisa) Cordes, sisters-in-law Connie Womack and Patricia Cordes, brothers-in-law Gary and Ted Schweikert, as well as many nieces and nephews. Each of them will carry forward the memories of Stephen’s warm heart and generous spirit.

Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Cordes, parents, Willard and Lucille Cordes, and brother, W. Charles Cordes.

Funeral services for Stephen will be held on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the BLUE Line) where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life. Visitation will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 12:00 PM, honoring the legacy he leaves behind. Inurnment will follow at 1:00 PM at the Arlington Memorial Gardens. The family invites all whose lives were touched by Stephen to join them in remembrance as they pay tribute to a remarkable man who devoted his life to others.
