Susan K. Brown

december 11, 1954 – march 23, 2025

Susan K. Brown

Susan K. Brown, 70, of Mason, Ohio, peacefully passed away on March 23, 2025, after a tough battle with ALS. Born on December 11, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sue dedicated her life to the service of others as a compassionate nurse for nearly 50 years, most recently with TriHealth. Her journey in healthcare began at the tender age of 13 when she volunteered as a candy striper, igniting a lifelong passion for nursing that profoundly impacted the lives she touched.

Sue was a devoted mother to her beloved children, Jennifer Bolton (Ben) and Christopher  Horwarth (Alesha). She reveled in her role as a grandmother, finding tremendous joy in the company of her grandchildren: Anya, Lex, Astrid, Orin, Aubrey, Claire, Kylah and Braylon. It was in these precious moments shared with family that Sue’s love shone brightest. She cherished time with family. Spending time with brother Les Schenk, his wife Gina, and their children Michael Schenk (Rebecca) & Lauren Reifsteck (Jamison) brought her great joy.

In addition to her family, Sue had a vibrant personality and sought comfort in her favorite pastimes. She was an enthusiastic ballroom dancer and was even involved in performances from time to time. She found tranquility in her garden, particularly among her beloved rose bushes. Spending time at the lake was her escape, it was one of her favorite places to be. She was a loyal fan of college basketball, passionately supporting the Xavier Musketeers. During football season she followed the Cincinnati Bengals, no matter what their win record for the season. Anytime an opportunity arose to see her children, grandchildren, niece or nephew perform she was present. Sue took pride in seeing them on stage, in concert, on the field, or in the water. No matter how big or small the accomplishment, it was known she wanted to witness the event.

Sue loved her pets, having been a devoted companion to her dogs, Beau and Bailey, who preceded her in death, and Gunner and Bella, who found new homes with cherished friends. Many of her hours after retirement were dedicated to volunteering with Gunner in local hospitals, schools, and other organizations.

Her spirit will be honored at a Celebration of Life service on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 (follow the blue line upon entering memorial park). Visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM. Burial will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the Garden of Roses, allowing her loved ones a moment to reflect privately on the profound impact she had on all their lives.

As we gather to celebrate her life and bid farewell, may her memory continue to inspire us in our pursuit of kindness, love, and service to others.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local animal rescue organization, an organization supporting the fight for ALS, or a charity supporting healthcare workers to honor Susan’s legacy of compassion and dedication.

Rest in peace, Susan K. Brown, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. You will be deeply missed.

Susan was preceded in death by: Donald Brown, Alvin Schenk, Martha Schenk.

Celebration of Life will be held at Pebble Creek, 9799 Prechtel Road, 45252 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Guest Book

“Sue and I lived in the same neighborhood and we both enjoyed walking our dogs. Her Gunner and Belle were good friends of my Rocky. We looked forward to seeing each other and our dogs did too. May she be reunited with her loving pets, just this side heaven, on the “Rainbow Bridge” when the time is right. We will be making a donation to our local SPCA in her memory. “In loving memory of my dear friend. Sue’s spirit was as bright as her smile. I’ll always cherish the memories of our time together at work and after she retired. I am honored that she trusted me to love and protect Gunner and Bella as much as she did, and I fully intend to keep my promise. May God bring peace and strength to the hearts of her friends and family during this sorrowful journey. We will miss you forever. Rest in Heaven my sweet friend, except of course when you are dancing. Love you.”

“Loved you unconditionally”

“Sue and I attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1976. Sue’s passion for caring for people was evident throughout her career. We both worked for and retired from TriHealth. Our friendship continued throughout the years, this I will treasure. God had wrapped His arms around Sue. Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.”
