A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Viola Lorene Porcello, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on February 8, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she cherished her roots before spending her later years in sunny St Petersburg, Florida. Viola was a spirited soul known for her feisty personality, strong will, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Viola took immense pride in her family. She is survived by her son, Fred (Irene) Porcello; her cherished grandchildren, Christine Porcello, Nichole Kopp, and Michael Sullivan; as well as her sister Martha Sowders, and numerous nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Ignatius “John” Porcello, her parents, Joseph Puccini and Jessi Hebel, her brother Joseph Puccini, and her sister Virginia Wagenfeld.
She was an adoring grandmother who loved to spend time with her great-grandchildren, cheering them on with pride. Viola’s home was a constant gathering place for the family, filled with laughter and love. Her nurturing spirit extended to her siblings, with whom she cherished quality time and shared the values of family and togetherness. She was truly the family’s matriarch.
Viola dedicated over thirty years of her life to the retail industry, particularly with Federated Department Store, where she not only excelled in her role but also built enduring relationships with colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her work environment, exemplifying kindness, and care as she engaged with those around her daily.
Throughout her life, Viola found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid card player, relishing games of euchre and 500 with friends and family. A passionate supporter of her hometown teams, she cheered for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds with unwavering enthusiasm. Viola was also a talented dancer, captivating those around her with her grace and rhythm, especially when dancing with her late husband John. Their performances drew admiration and applause, leaving lasting memories for all who witnessed them.
A lover of gardening, Viola took pride in her roses and spent countless hours tending to her flowers and plants. Music enriched her life as well; she was particularly fond of the Big Band era.
