A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Charlene Kuyper, born on September 22, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 87 years old.
Charlene embraced her role as a homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family. She took particular joy in making crafts, baking cookies-especially her beloved peanut butter and chocolate chip treats-and making nametags for the residents and staff at Wellington. Charlene enjoyed sewing as well, and passed down her love for sewing to her granddaughter, Sarah. A social butterfly, she relished getting to know people and formed deep connections within her community.
In her devotion to her faith and to serving others, Charlene was an active member of the Bridgetown Church of Christ. She shared the good news of her faith daily and mentored several young women, guiding them toward a Christ-like life. Her kindness extended beyond her church, as she frequently volunteered at her children’s school and went out of her way to be a supportive neighbor.
Throughout her life, Charlene cherished her family above all. She was married to her first husband, Howard, for 54 years before his passing. After finding new love, she married Robert “Bob” Kuyper and together they enjoyed 10 beautiful years. She was immensely proud of her children: Wayne Patton and Cheryl Shrider, and her heart swelled with joy as she watched her grandchildren-Phil, Sarah, Jacob, Lydia, Caleb, and Josiah-grow into remarkable individuals. She found immense happiness in the company of her great-grandchildren, including Teddy, Eliza, Braxton, and Keziah.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Patton, parents, William and Marie Korte, and her brother, Roger Korte.
Charlene was known for her generous spirit and deep concern for everyone around her. She may not have been a fervent pet lover, but she opened her heart to many furry companions throughout her life. Above all, she held a special place in her heart for conversations about Heaven, sharing her hope and faith with all who would listen.
Charlene will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Bob, her devoted children, grandchildren, and the vast array of friends and family whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 2025 from 9:30-10:30am at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the BLUE line). A funeral service will follow at 10:30am. Burial will take place at the Arlington Memorial Gardens at 11:00am.
In honor of Charlene, memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Healthy Christian Village by mailing to CBA Foundation, 411 Western Row Road, Mason, OH 45040.
Charlene leaves behind a rich legacy of love, compassion, and faith that will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her. We find comfort in knowing that she rests peacefully in God’s embrace.
